Alaska Man Arrested For Trading Moose Meat For Firewood
The Fairbanks man who is accused of illegally trading moose meat for firewood is taking his case to court.
Chad Gerondale, 41, has hired well-known Fairbanks attorney Bill Satterberg to represent him in the “meat for heat” case, as it has been dubbed by online spectators.
“I’ve got a lot to say about it but (Satterberg) told me not to,” Gerondale told the News-Miner Tuesday morning when he returned phone messages left during the weekend.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers last week issued Gerondale a summons to appear in court on Feb. 3 to be arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of illegal barter of game meat. Troopers issued a news release Friday stating Gerondale had been cited for agreeing to trade 125 pounds of moose meat for two cords of firewood.
Buying, selling or bartering of game meat, except snowshoe hares, is illegal. The one exception is caribou meat in northern and western Alaska (units 22-26) may be bartered, but the meat cannot be taken out of those units.
Gerondale allegedly offered to swap moose meat for firewood on the radio show, Tradio, which airs on KFAR 660 AM.
“The allegations are the guy was on Tradio and said, ‘I need some firewood and I’m willing to trade some moose meat,’” Satterberg said.
Trooper Ken Vanspronsen contacted Gerondale to make a deal and then showed up at his house and issued him a citation, Satterberg said.

New Cases Of H1N1 Reported In Asia & Mideast
New cases of the H5N1 virus — or bird flu — are being reported more frequently throughout Asia and the Mideast.
On Thursday, Vietnam confirmed its first human death resulting from the virus since April 2010. The fatality came just one day after neighboring Cambodia reported a bird flu death.
The 18-year-old Vietnamese man, who died on Jan. 11, was a duck farmer in the southern Mekong delta province of Hau Giang, according to Channel News Asia. Experts in the country are investigating whether the infection came from his flock.
In Cambodia, a 2-year-old boy from northwestern Banteay Meanchey province, died on Jan. 18 after contracting the virus. The child is thought to have been exposed to infected poultry, according to the World Health Organization.
Vietnamese authorities say that there is no need to be alarmed about the recent H5N1 reports.
US Led Forces Kill Five Afghan Civilians
Local officials said on Wednesday that a woman and two children were among the dead, a Press TV correspondent reported.
NATO claimed that the foreign forces operation was carried out against the Taliban in cooperation with Afghan forces, saying two Taliban militants were killed.
Other sources put the number of civilian deaths at seven.
The killing of Afghan civilians by blasts and US-led foreign forces has prompted anti-US demonstrations in the country.
The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism and toppling the Taliban regime.
However, insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of US-led foreign forces in the country.
Growing Number Of Geriatric Prisoners Strain System
by James Ridgeway
Frank Soffen, now 70 years old, has lived more than half his life in prison, and will likely die there.
Sentenced to life for second-degree murder, Soffen has suffered four heart attacks and is confined to a wheelchair. He has lately been held in the assisted living wing of Massachusetts’ Norfolk prison. Because of his failing health and his exemplary record over his 37 years behind bars—which includes rescuing a guard being threatened by other prisoners—Soffen has been held up as a candidate for release on medical and compassionate grounds.
He is physically incapable of committing a violent crime, has already participated in pre-release and furlough programs, and has a supportive family and a place to live with his son. One of the members of the Massachusetts state parole board spoke in favor of his release. But in 2006 the board voted to deny Soffen parole. He will not be eligible for review for another five years.
The “tough on crime” posturing and policymaking that have dominated American politics for more than three decades have left behind a grim legacy. Longer sentences and harsher parole standards have led to overcrowded prisons, overtaxed state budgets, and devastated families and communities. Now, yet another consequence is becoming visible in the nation’s prisons and jails: a huge and ever-growing number of geriatric prisoners.
MegaUpload Shut Down By Feds-Founder Arrested
MegaUpload, one of the largest file-sharing sites on the Internet, has been shut down by federal prosecutors in Virginia. The site’s founder Kim Dotcom and three others were arrested by the police in New Zealand at the request of US authorities. MegaVideo, the streaming site belonging to same company, and a total of 18 domains connected to the Mega company were seized and datacenters in three countries raided.
Just a few weeks ago, MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom told TorrentFreak that his Mega ventures have nothing to worry about, as they operate within the rules of the law.
“Mega has nothing to fear. Our business is legitimate and protected by the DMCA and similar laws around the world. We work with the best lawyers and play by the rules.
“We take our legal obligations seriously. Mega’s war chest is full and we have strong supporters backing us,” Dotcom said.
But behind the scenes powerful forces were at work, plotting the forceful demise of MegaUpload, one of the world’s biggest websites.
An indictment unsealed today by the Department of Justice claims that MegaUpload has caused the entertainment industries more than $500 million in lost revenue and generated $175 million “in criminal proceeds.”
Doctor Calls Child Protective Services Because Mother Refuses Vaccine
What would you do if your pediatrician called the cops and child protective services on you for refusing to get your child vaccinated? That is exactly what happened recently to Rachel Garmon of Pennsylvania when she told her new pediatrician that her healthy and vibrant two-and-a-half year old son had never been — and never would be — vaccinated.
InfoWars reports that Garmon, a well-known member of her community and director of a sports and wellness program at a local community organization, had been having a reasonably pleasant interaction with her new pediatrician until the conversation moved on to the topic of vaccines. The pediatrician, Garmon did not name, apparently began to badger Garmon with typical pro-vaccine propaganda in an attempt to convince the mother to vaccinate her son.
Garmon refused, of course, explaining that she had “strong convictions against vaccinating (her) son,” and did not plan to give him any shots at all. Garmon also refused to sign the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) egregious “Refusal to Vaccinate Form,” which illegitimately forces parents to incriminate themselves by admitting that they are “endanger[ing] the health or life” of their children by refusing to vaccinate, as well as other such nonsense.

24 Statistics For Anyone Believing America Holds Bright Economic Future
Beware of bubbles of false hope. Right now there is a lot of talk about how the U.S. economy is improving, but it is all a lie. The mainstream media can be very seductive. When you sit down to watch television your brain tends to go into a very relaxed mode. In such a state, it becomes easy to slip thoughts and ideas past your defenses. Sometimes when I am watching television I realize what the media is trying to do and yet I can still feel it happening to me. In this day and age, it is absolutely critical that we all think for ourselves. When you look at the long-term trends and the long-term numbers, a much different picture of the U.S economy emerges than the one that is painted for us on television. Over the long-term, the number of good jobs in America has been steadily going down. Over the long-term, the number of Americans living in poverty and living on food stamps has been steadily going up. Over the past couple of decades, tens of thousands of businesses, millions of jobs and trillions of dollars of our national wealth have gone out of the country. Our debt is nearly 15 times larger than it was 30 years ago, and U.S. consumer debt has soared by 1700% over the past 40 years. Year after year the rate of inflation goes up faster than our incomes do, and this is absolutely devastating the middle class. Anyone who believes that we can keep doing the same things that we have been doing and yet America will still have a bright economic future is delusional. Until the long-term trends which are taking the U.S. economy straight into the toilet are reversed, any talk of a bright economic future is absolute nonsense.
In America today, we have such a short-term focus. We are all so caught up with what is happening right now. Our attention spans seem to get shorter every single year. At this point it would not be hard to argue that kittens have longer attention spans than most of us do. (If you have ever owned a kitten you know how short their attention spans can be.) Things have gotten so bad that most of our high school students cannot even answer the most basic questions about our history. If people are not talking about it on Facebook or Twitter it is almost as if it does not even matter.
But any serious student of history knows that is is absolutely crucial to examine long-term trends. And when you look at the long-term trends, it rapidly becomes apparent that the U.S. economy is in the midst of a nightmarish long-term decline.
The following are 24 statistics to show to anyone who believes that America has a bright economic future….
#1 Inflation is a silent tax that steals wealth from all of us. We continue to shell out increasing amounts of money for the basic things that we need, and yet our incomes are not keeping pace. Just check out the following example. Gasoline prices have been trending higher for several years in a row as one blogger recently noted….
January 2009 $1.65
January 2010 $2.57
January 2011 $3.04
January 2012 $3.29
#2 If you can believe it, the average American household spent approximately $4,155 on gasoline during 2011.
#3 Electricity bills in the United States have risen faster than the overall rate of inflation for five years in a row.
#4 Health care costs continue to rise at a very alarming pace. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, health care costs accounted for just 9.5% of all personal consumption back in 1980. Today they account for approximately 16.3%.
#5 Getting a college education has also become insanely expensive in America. After adjusting for inflation, U.S. college students are borrowing about twice as much money as they did a decade ago.
Mystery Illness Strikes 12 School Girls In Le Roy Schools Near Rochester, NY
Twelve young schoolgirls from Le Roy Junior – Senior High School near Rochester, New York, recently became afflicted with a mysterious condition that caused them to develop tics and other symptoms similar to those associated with Tourette Syndrome. But administrators from the Le Roy Central School District refuse to publicly disclose the condition or its cause, even to the girls parents, claiming that it is a “federal issue.”
Since September, the 12 afflicted students, all girls, developed symptoms so severe that many of them had to be pulled out of school and tutored at home, according to WHAM 13 in Rochester. Officials claim the girls have all been properly diagnosed since that time, but they refuse to disclose any detailed information citing HIPAA privacy laws that actually do not apply in this situation, which implies a coverup.
“I can assure you these children have all been seen by professionals that have come up with answers and they are all being treated and they’re actually doing pretty well,” alleged Dr. Greg Young from the New York State Department of Health, during a recent meeting with upset parents. Dr. Young and his crew say environmental factors, poisonings, illicit drugs, hysteria, fake illness and various other causes have been ruled out — but vaccines, and the Gardasil vaccine in particular, were not mentioned as being ruled out.
Jim DuPont, a parent of one of the afflicted girls, expressed outrage about the situation to local reporters following the meeting. Though Dr. Young and the health department claim there is a diagnosis, DuPont says this is untrue. He also says that evenhehas not been told why his daughter and the others fell ill, as authorities are keeping the true cause, if they even know it, under wraps.
“Want to know something? If my daughter had a diagnosis and I knew about it, and I would as her parent, I would tell you that!” said DuPont to WHAM 13. “These girls all go to the same neurologist and there is no diagnosis. They don’t know what’s causing it. That’s why we’re all here at this meeting.”

Publicly funded GMO testing in India exposed as fraudulent
(NaturalNews) The nation of India is currently embroiled in a massive scandal involving the use of taxpayer dollars to fund research into genetically-modified organisms (GMO). The Coalition for a GM-Free India (CGMFI) is demanding an immediate end to public sector funding of GMO research after the Indian government and several research institutions were caught using Monsanto’s genetic traits in supposedly “indigenous” GM crops.
From all sides, India, the world’s ninth largest economy, has been continually bombarded by foreign interests pushing it to adopt GMO technologies. The World Bank, for example, set the stage for the hijacking of India’s agricultural system back in the late 1990s when it forced the country to globalize its seed economy. More recently, Monsanto and other key players in biotechnology have repeatedly pushed Indian farmers to adopt GMO technologies by lying to them about its alleged, but unfounded, agricultural benefits (http://www.naturalnews.com/030913_Monsanto_suicides.html).
Rather than fully capitulate to this political pressure, India decided to develop its own publicly-funded GMO research arm that would be tasked with developing indigenous GMOs not connected to any multinational corporation. But now it turns out that this program is a failure as well, as these so-called indigenous GMOs were exposed as containing patented Monsanto traits.
